English Pub Sign, "Duke of Wellington"

$3,895
47.63 in. H x 34.88 in. W x 1.75 in. D
Inventory Number: CC544

An authentic English pub sign (one-sided) featuring a painting of the famous Napoleonic-era British military hero with his sword drawn, upon a horse, entitled: Duke of Wellington and Bass (for Bass Brewery, the original pub license holder).

Arthur Wellesley, 1st Duke of Wellington, KG, GCB, GCH, PC, FRS was an Anglo-Irish soldier and Tory statesman who was one of the leading military and political figures of 19th-century Britain, serving twice as prime minister of the United Kingdom.

The Bass brewery was founded in 1777 by William Bass in Burton-upon-Trent, Staffordshire, England. The main brand was Bass Pale Ale, once the highest-selling beer in the UK. By 1877, Bass had become the largest brewery in the world, with an annual output of one million barrels. Its pale ale was exported throughout the British Empire, and the company's iconic red triangle became the UK's first registered trade mark.

A very fine example of vintage advertising artwork and ready for display.
