Josef Hoffmann (1870 - 1956) was an Austrian artist and designer who co-founded the Wiener Werkstätte. He studied at the Higher State Crafts School in Brno, and then worked with the local military planning authority in Germany. He also studied at the Academy of Fine Arts of Wien with Karl Freiherr von Hasenauer and Otto Wagner, graduating with a Prix de Rome in 1895.
