An English rectangular box from the 19th century, featuring an inlaid design of miscellaneous woods known to collectors as Tunbridgeware.
Exterior with a geometric pattern design of herringbone to the top and front. With brass inlay chevrons to the top center and escutcheon.
The hinged top opening to an interior with marbleized paper.
Produced during the nineteenth century in the spa town of Royal Tunbridge Wells and in Tonbridge, in the county of Kent, this is a fine example of the inlay technique for which Tunbridge ware is renowned.
